Located in the center of downtown Block Island
Ideally located within walking distance of restaurants, bars, shopping, and beaches, the Old Bakery Inn places you in the heart of the island experience. Situated directly across the street from the ferry arrival and next door to the iconic National Hotel, the property offers unbeatable convenience and a truly historic setting.
Built in 1912 by my great-great-grandfather, Frank Payne Sr., the building was originally constructed as an annex to The National Hotel, which was owned by his cousin, Ray Lewis. The first floor served as the island’s Post Office, where Frank’s father, Edward Sands, served as postmaster. Over the years, the building transformed into a bakery, giving rise to the name Old Bakery Inn.
Today, this historic property blends its rich island heritage with modern comforts, offering guests a unique opportunity to stay in a piece of local history while enjoying everything the downtown waterfront has to offer.
